Police Administration
The UNCG Police Department is a fully commissioned, professional force of 31 police officers and 10 uniformed security officers. UNCG Police officers receive the same level of training, in some cases more, as county and municipal officers. Newly hired Officers are required to complete a 506 hour training course in law enforcement, and a six-week training program, where they learn to apply law enforcement skills in a university environment.
As sworn law enforcement officers, members of the UNCG Police Department are authorized to carry firearms, and under North Carolina law, have the power to make arrests and conduct investigations for crimes that occur on property owned by the University. A mutual aid agreement with the City of Greensboro gives the UNCG Police Department jurisdiction throughout the city. The UNCG Police Department is a full service agency with the capability of handling a full range of police matters. Uniformed Officer patrol the campus 24 hours a day, on foot, in patrol cars and by bicycle. The Police Department also utilizes 10 uniformed security officers to patrol the academic buildings and residence halls at night and in the evenings.
