To provide an honorable and professional police officer's burial for any police officer who is killed or dies while employed at a UNC System University, Public Safety Department, whether on or off duty at the time of death, if the family or the member so requests.

To Provide an honorable and professional police officer's burial for any police officer who has served honorably and retired from any affiliated University Public Safety Department, if the family or the member so requests.

To provide an honorable and professional burial for any University member or alumni whom the chancellor of the University has determined deserves such an honor from the University.

To provide a professional honor guard for both University and UNC System events which the Chancellor, the President of UNC System or the Chief of Public Safety of the University have deemed appropriate and in the interest of the University or UNC System for the Honor Guard to perform.
