UNCG Police Department Citizens Academy

Mission

The UNCG Police Department is to create and achieve a positive relationship with the University Community by providing and understanding of basic law enforcement through our Citizen Academy.


Objectives
:

The Citizen Academy will be a cooperative effort with all areas of the police work, but the citizen academy is not being held to train citizens as police officer or to excercise police authority of any kind. Conduct two Citizens Academies per year; in the Spring and Fall Semesters.


The  Citizen Academy will meet once a week for five weeks begining May 23,2007 and end on June 20, 2007. These meetings will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and will consist of classroom and hands on exercises. The five week meeting will follow with a graduation ceremony. Information covered in the classes are:

  • Overall administrative functions of the Police Department
  • Crime Prevention Programs
  • Patrol Division functions
  • Support Services/Criminal Investigation Divisions functions
  • University Judicial System functions.
  • To be eligible to participate in the Citizen's Academy, you must:

  • must be 18 years of age or over
  • Be enrolled as student at UNCG Or employed by the University.
  • Pass a criminal record check.
