The definition of recovery is the process of returning a community to “normal.” Recovery does not happen on it’s own and one of the four cycles of disaster management. The recovery phase of disaster can be broken into two periods. The short-term phase typically lasts from six months to one year and involves delivering immediate services. The long-term phase, which can reach beyond a year or more, requires thoughtful strategic planning and action to address more serious or permanent impacts of a disaster. Regardless of the time required, UNCG is dedicated to the recovery process.
