Safety Apps & Sites

We have compiled a series of applications and sites that you can use to help improve your safety and increase everyone’s awareness. These apps and sites will help keep you informed and enable you to share important information with the police. Please never hesitate to contact the police if you feel unsafe or need help.

Campus Crime & Fire Log – In accordance with the Federal law known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act, the UNCG Police Department maintains this Campus Crime Log, which contains information on alleged criminal incidents reported to UNCG Police.  The Clery Act requires that the Log contain the following information with regard to each alleged incident:  (1) the nature of the crime; (2) the date the crime was reported to UNCG Police; (3) the date and time the crime allegedly occurred; (4) the General Location of the crime; and (4) the disposition of the complaint, if known. Police may withhold information from the Log if there is evidence that the release of the particular information would— (A) Jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual; (B) Cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; or (C) Result in the destruction of evidence. The Log is to be updated with the withheld information if and when the UNCG Police determine that the justification for withholding the information no longer exists.

LiveSafe – Submit crime tips and safety information discreetly to local law enforcement, with the option to include a picture, video, or audio evidence. Live-chat with the police to answer additional questions for crime reports, dial 911 or the nearest police agency to receive immediate assistance. Invite friends and family to see your location and follow you on a map or request an escort to make sure you get home safely.

CrimeMapping.com – CrimeMapping.com has been developed by TriTech Software Systems to help law enforcement agencies throughout North America provide the public with valuable information about recent crime activity in their neighborhood. Utilizing an advanced mapping engine and data extracted from departments on a daily basis, our goal is to assist police departments in reducing crime through a better-informed citizenry. Creating more self-reliance among community members is a great benefit to community oriented policing efforts everywhere and has been proven effective in combating crime.

Spartan Alert – SpartanAlert is a website created by UNCG to post Emergency Alerts, Timely Notifications and general information for services provided through the university. For instance, during inclement weather several departments will post closing and opening times and any other important information that you may need to know to prepare for the upcoming situation.

Nextdoor – Nextdoor allows communities to easily create private websites to facilitate communication among neighbors and build stronger neighborhoods. Nextdoor was created based on the idea that the neighborhood is one of the most important and useful communities in a person’s life. Nextdoor’s mission is to use technology to help neighbors build stronger and safer neighborhoods.  Please join us on Nextdoor and helps us make our campus community safe.
