TREDS Programs
Training, Research, and Education for Driving Safety
The UNCG Police Department, in partnership with TREDS (Training, Research, and Education for Driving Safety), promotes safe driving behaviors and aims to prevent crashes. The programs include: Just Drive – Take Action Against Distraction, Higher Education – Driving High is DUI, Steer Clear – Decide to Drive Sober, TREDwise – Get There Safely, and others. Please see below for details about each program.
The TREDS programs, offered to students, staff, faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the community, last approximately one hour. The programs are offered once a month each semester, and upon request, and are held at the UNCG Police Department; registration is required. A minimum number of participants must be registered for the course to proceed. If the minimum is not met within 24 hours of the course, it will be canceled, and all registered participants will be notified. If you are interested in hosting a TREDS course in your residence hall or for your club or organization, we will work with you to schedule a program that fits your schedule and location. To host a course, please complete the contact form and someone will contact you to set up a date, time.
About Treds
TREDS (Training, Research, and Education for Driving Safety) is located at the University of California (UC) San Diego, School of Medicine. TREDS creates programs for professionals and the public to encourage safe driving habits and prevent crashes. Since 2005, TREDS has been funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS). These programs are supported by a grant from the OTS through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The UNCG Police Department has updated the courses to include statistics and laws relevant to North Carolina.
